Why We Are Hiring
About a year ago, I started Fly Almost Free as a side project to scratch my own itch. I’m something of a travel hacker – I’ve racked up more points then I can remember and I routinely send great travel deals to my friends and family. At some point, I realized that maybe other people would want to hear about it, so I created an email list called Fly Almost Free.
It’s blown up beyond all expectations. Everyday we get thank you emails from people who visit amazing destinations all over the world for a lot less then they thought possible. Out of all the online projects I’ve been involved in (and there are a lot), it’s probably the most gratifying one emotionally…..
……But it’s still a side project. We have a lot of other, more profitable things on our plate that eat up most of our time. That bothers me, because a lot more people need to be flying for almost free. Hence this ad.
Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to bring the gospel of Fly Almost Free to the masses. On every flight, 2 people sitting next to each other could have paid vastly different sums for the exact same seat. We want as many people as possible on our list so they can fly for as cheap as possible around the world.

We are looking to to hire soon! If you are reading this then the position is still open and you’re welcome to apply. The role will start out part-time but will quickly accelerate to full-time.
We want to take this from a side project to a strong company. This is a chance for the right person to help the founder, work independently and grow Fly Almost Free. You will be reporting directly to Ari but you are expected to manage yourself. There will be extra, performance based compensation in addition to your base pay. Your location doesn’t matter as long as you don’t mind having a meeting that’s on Israel time ever now and then.
Who We Need
We are looking for someone to take ownership and drive growth. You should be able to improve what we are currently doing, introduce new ideas, and increase our growth metrics.
Metrics for Growth:
- Email subscribers added
- Ultra Members signed up
Fly Almost Free has a free list, which gets one email a day, and our Ultra list, which is paid, gets all of the deals and has some other perks. You can only get on Ultra if you’re on the free list first.
Current Growth Methods:
We have used Reddit, Imgur, and tried Product Hunt. Giveaways have worked well for us, such as giving away trips and flights (we sent someone to England last year!).
In order to do giveaways (which are great for growth), we need someone who is ready to contact tourism boards, travel companies, and other potential partners.
Paid growth methods such as Facebook ads are of interest to us but we’d like to keep the cost of acquisition down.
- Ability to self-manage and work independently
- Strong experience with growing email lists
- Email marketing/newsletter experience
- Ability to improve on the current growth methods while bringing new ideas
- Phone and outreach skills (for growing partnerships)
- Understanding of growth-hacking/marketing
- Native American English is preferred
