YouTube Video Editor

I am looking for an experienced video editor to help create 1 video per week for our educational YouTube channel.

With your help, I’ll be able to focus on researching, writing, and filming my videos, as well as running all the other elements of our business.

This will be a part-time role, and I am looking to build a long-term, high-contact, relationship of collaborative creativity!

Here are the broad outlines of our projects:

  • I typically create instructional videos that are about 10 or 15 minutes long, covering Spanish grammar, study habits, or motivation.

  • You can see a sample of previous videos on our channel here.

  • However, we want to change our editing style to be much more professional and YouTube-friendly. We want to add music, more titles, more B-roll, etc. What you see on that channel is just my scrappy attempts as a podcaster who is dabbling in YouTube.

  • With your help, we’d like to bring our quality up toward that of Olly Richards, Elizabeth Filips, and Ali Abdaal.

What we’ll provide

  • A-roll (usually one camera, sometimes multicam)

  • B-roll

  • The video script for your reference, including chapters and relevant bullet lists

  • Some instructional visuals when relevant

  • Our branding package (for colors, fonts, etc.)

  • Monthly services for visuals and sound:

    • Penji for thumbnail design

    • Storyblocks for stock video

    • Audio resources for music and sound effects (based on what you request)

General Expectations

  • Tight and well-edited A-roll

  • Lots of B-roll

  • Titles

  • Transitions

  • Zooms and cuts

  • Pop-up text, images, and/or icons where relevant (and motion-tracked where suitable)

  • Intro shot with icons/text to show the viewer a high-level timestamp view of the video

  • Chapter markers as lower thirds

  • Appropriate music (professional, educational, sort of NPR-style)

  • Some subtle sound effects when appropriate

  • 2 or 3 rounds of feedback for most projects

More Expectations

  • The first 30-60 seconds should have the best, most creative editing.

  • Every 10 seconds should have something visual happening (to support the lesson, not distract from it).

  • Every 30 seconds should have some B-roll.

  • A-roll should be very tightly edited: No “ums”, no pauses.

  • Use a variety of cut styles.

  • Any sound effects should be tasteful and enhance the message, not distract from it.

Preferences for applicants

  • Can edit 1 video per week (each video about 10-15 minutes), with a turnaround time of 1 week max.

  • About $500 per finished video.

  • Prefer Final Cut Pro so that we can share files.

  • frame.io for easy feedback

  • Fluent English; proficient Spanish would be good but optional.

If you think you’re a great fit for this role, please include the following in your application:

  • The video editing software you currently use

  • Your preferred tools for music selection and file collaboration

  • Links to 1 or 2 videos that you edited that you’re very proud of

  • A link to one of your favorite YouTube channels, and why you like it (put that under “Other Details” in your application)
