Infrastructure Software Engineer, Intern

Paradoxum Games is looking for new interns to help us design new, scalable and maintainable infrastructure! As an infrastructure engineering intern, you'll be working on creating new infrastructure that millions of players depend on - working at both a high-level and a low-level simultaneously. Want to help us build out our datacenter presence? Go for it! The sky is the limit - it all depends on what you want to do. You'll be directly reporting to our Infrastructure team, and if you like working on things behind the scenes that people depend on without ever realizing, then this is the job for you!

You're a good fit if you:

  • Required: Pursuing an undergraduate degree in computer science, engineering or a related field

  • Required: Have excellent written / verbal communication skills in English

  • Required: Familiar with one or more programming languages such as Lua, JavaScript, Java, C++, or others

  • Required: Experience working with version control software (We use Git)

  • Are curious about new technologies / features, and are willing to implement them

  • Have a passion for both playing and making games

  • Are familiar with container orchestration systems (Kubernetes, HashiCorp Nomad, Docker Swarn)

  • Are familiar with containers, container registries, etc (Docker, OCI, etc)

  • Want to learn how the Internet works at a low-level

You'll be doing:

  • Writing quality TypeScript code to help reduce technical debt, clean up old code, fixing bugs, documenting features, and peer reviewing code

  • Collaborating with cross-disciplinary peers

  • Writing code that runs directly on our Kubernetes cluster, which serves millions of players each month

  • Thoroughly testing and deploying to millions of players with minimal bugs

  • Write unit and integration tests for the code you write

Bonus points:

  • Have experience working in a self-managed or remote environment

  • Have experience contributing to the Open Source community

  • Have existing code snippets of your current work, either on GitHub or provided as files

$25 - $35 an hour

Please note that this compensation is for employees based near our headquarters in Reston, VA. The actual base pay is dependent upon a variety of job-related factors such as professional background, training, work experience, location, business needs and market demand. Therefore, in some circumstances, the actual salary could fall outside of this expected range. This pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.

Please note that this job is only currently available to people that are 18+ and are based in the US! While we'd love to hire from outside the US, currently we're not able to at this time.
